f you are planning to buy a used car from Japan, one of the first questions you may have is:
“How long will it take for my car to arrive in Guyana?”
There is no single delivery time for every vehicle. The total time depends on several steps, including finding and purchasing the vehicle, preparing it for export, completing the required inspection and documents, waiting for the vessel, and transporting the vehicle to Guyana.
As a general estimate, the complete process can take around 6 to 10 weeks, although the actual time may be shorter or longer depending on the shipment.
Finding and Purchasing the Vehicle
The process begins with choosing a vehicle that matches your budget and requirements.
If the vehicle is purchased through a Japanese auction, the timing can depend on when a suitable vehicle becomes available and when it is successfully purchased.
Once the vehicle is purchased, the export process can begin.
Preparing the Vehicle for Export
After purchase, the vehicle needs to be transported to the appropriate location in Japan for export preparation.
The necessary documents are also prepared, and the vehicle goes through the required procedures before shipment.
For vehicles being exported to Guyana, a Vehicle Inspection Certificate is currently required as part of the customs declaration process. The Guyana Revenue Authority states that the certificate must be uploaded with the relevant documents in ASYCUDA.
Waiting for the Shipping Schedule
Once the vehicle is ready for export, it must be booked for shipping.
The waiting time can vary depending on the available vessel, departure schedule, port arrangements and shipping route.
This is one reason why we cannot give every customer exactly the same delivery date.
Ocean Shipping to Guyana
The vehicle then begins its journey from Japan to Guyana.
The ocean transit time depends on the shipping route and vessel schedule. Some shipments may also involve transshipment, which can affect the total travel time.
Because of these factors, it is better to provide an estimated arrival period rather than promise an exact number of days.
Arrival and Customs Clearance in Guyana
After the vehicle arrives in Guyana, additional procedures must be completed before the vehicle can be released.
Customs documentation is important during this stage. The Guyana Revenue Authority lists documents such as the invoice, Bill of Lading and other relevant import documents for vehicle registration and clearance.
The timing of clearance can depend on whether all documents are complete and whether additional examination or processing is required.
How Long Should You Expect?
From the purchase of the vehicle in Japan to its arrival and completion of the necessary procedures in Guyana, a reasonable general estimate is:
Approximately 6–10 weeks
However, this is only an estimate. The actual timeline can change because of:
- Vehicle availability
- Auction schedules
- Inland transportation in Japan
- Inspection and documentation
- Vessel availability
- Port schedules
- Transshipment
- Weather or unexpected delays
- Customs clearance in Guyana
